" Is my work Jewish because I insist on combining text—the Word—with images?" Ken Aptekar asked about his painting I Hate the Name Kenneth in a 1996 statement. Aptekar, who has red hair and name that does not sound Jewish, struggled with his Jewish identity when he was younger. This tension with his heritage evoked a fascination with Jewish names that inspired this painting. Expand your understanding in this 30-minute gallery discussion led by Director of Education, Nelly Silagy Benedek. This series continues on October 27 and December 1.
