Talk

Monday, November 21, 2016
8 – 9:30 am
Think Coffee, Union Square, 123 4th Ave, NYC

A breakfast salon for the 21st century that takes place in the early hours of the day at Think Coffee, Union Square, hosted by the Jewish Museum. Artist Ian Cheng discusses his recent projects with Jens Hoffmann, Director of Special Exhibitions and Public Programs.

Ian Cheng (b. 1984, Los Angeles) lives and works in New York. His work explores the nature of mutation and the capacity of humans to relate to change. Drawing on principles of video game design, improv, and cognitive science, Cheng has developed “live simulations”, living virtual ecosystems that begin with basic programmed properties, but are left to self-evolve without authorial intent or end. Recent solo exhibitions include Migros Museum (2016), Pilar Corrias (2015), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (2015), Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (2015). Recent group exhibitions include Hirshhorn Museum (2016), Liverpool Biennial (2016), Musée d'Art Moderne (2015), Taipei Biennial (2014), Lyon Biennial (2013), and Sculpture Center (2012).

Coffee and conversation are free
