Monday, February 28, 2022—The Jewish Museum has launched a new, digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and culture app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Bloomberg Connects app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store, makes the Jewish Museum accessible for either onsite or offsite visits through photo, audio, and video features offering insights into the Museum’s exhibitions, programs, and collection.

New York NY, February 24, 2022—The Jewish Museum will present New York: 1962-1964, an exhibition that explores a pivotal three-year period in the history of art and culture in New York City, examining how artists living and working in New York responded to their rapidly changing world. Installed across two floors, this immersive exhibition will present more than 150 works of art—all made or seen in New York between 1962-1964—including painting, sculpture, photography, and film, alongside fashion, design, dance, poetry, and ephemera. The exhibition will be on view at the Jewish Museum from July 22, 2022, through January 8, 2023. 

New York, NY, February 14, 2022—The Jewish Museum presents Jonas Mekas: The Camera Was Always Running, the first U.S. museum survey of the Lithuanian-born filmmaker, poet, critic, and institution-builder who helped shape the avant-garde in New York City and beyond. The exhibition coincides with the centennial of Mekas’s birth and surveys his 70-year career. It includes 11 films, photography, and previously unseen archival materials that explore the breadth and import of Mekas’s life, art, and legacy in the field of the moving image. During the final moments of World War II in 1944, Mekas was forced to flee his native Lithuania and unable to return until 1971. The relationship between exile and creativity is always at the heart of his work and is the exhibition’s central theme. Jonas Mekas: The Camera Was Always Running will be on view at the Jewish Museum from February 18 through June 5, 2022, and is organized by guest curator Kelly Taxter, with Kristina Parsons, Leon Levy Curatorial Assistant, the Jewish Museum.

New York, NY, August 16, 2021 — The Jewish Museum will present Afterlives: Recovering the Lost Stories of Looted Art, an exhibition that will situate the subject of art looting during World War II within a unique thematic premise, focusing on the seizure and movement of works as they traveled through distribution centers, sites of recovery, and networks of collectors, before, during, and after the war. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, and Judaica that survived this traumatic period of violence and upheaval against tremendous odds. By tracing the fascinating timelines of individual objects as they passed through hands and sites, their myriad stories will be brought forward, often in dialogue with archival documents and photographs that connect them to history. The exhibition will be on view from August 20, 2021 through January 9, 2022. 

New York NY, August 5, 2021—The Jewish Museum will present The Hare with Amber Eyes, an exhibition that tells the story of the Ephrussi family—celebrated in the 2010 memoir and The New York Times bestseller of the same name by Edmund de Waal—and showcases the breadth and depth of their illustrious collection. The exhibition, on view at the Jewish Museum from November 19, 2021 through May 15, 2022, explores the family’s rise to prominence and splendor in the first half of the nineteenth century, followed by a focus on the prolific collector and historian of art, Charles Ephrussi, to the inter-war years, and finally World War II, when the family lost its fortune and collection to Nazi looting. 

New York, NY, June 17, 2021—American television frequently depicts bar and bat mitzvahs, its portrayals ranging from the sincere to the playful to the irreverent. The exhibition Mazel Tov! Bar and Bat Mitzvahs on Television, on view at the Jewish Museum from June 17, 2021, through March 2022, brings together excerpts from television and streaming programs from 1966 to 2017, including shows such as The Wonder Years, Bob’s Burgers, BoJack Horseman, The Dick Van Dyke Show, 30 Rock, Younger, and Black-ish, among others.
