Stephen Brown

Stephen Brown is a curator at the Jewish Museum, where he has organized the following exhibitions: Chaim Soutine: Flesh (2018); Florine Stettheimer: Painting Poetry (2017); Masterpieces & Curiosities: The Fictional Portrait (2016); Edouard Vuillard: A Painter and his Muses, 1890-1940 (2012).  His research specializations are in the modern period, with a focus on art in its historical, literary, and social context.  His articles and reviews have appeared in various journals and anthologies, including the Bulletin for Research in the Humanities, the Burlington Magazine, and numerous exhibition catalogues.  Dr. Brown completed the doctorate at Columbia University in 2003.
