Writers and Artists Respond

Goldsmith/Goldstein

Talk

Thursday, May 30, 2013
6:30 – 7:30 pm
Scheuer Auditorium

Poet, author and founding editor of the online archive UbuWeb Kenneth Goldsmith responds to the exhibition JACK GOLDSTEIN x 10,000, with a reading from Goldstein’s final work Selected Writings 1994–2000.

Goldsmith will animate these appropriated passages, taken from philosophical texts by authors such as Heidegger, Foucault, and Nietzsche, which Goldstein broke apart into stanzas, pre-empting the concept of a ‘mashup.’ Selected Writings continues to explore the artist’s dominant themes of absence and disappearance by displacing the origin of the writers who served as inspiration.
