A breakfast salon for the 21st century that takes place in the early hours of the day at Think Coffee, Union Square, hosted by the Jewish Museum.

Artists Lucy Raven (7:30 – 8 AM) and Dara Birnbaum (8 – 8:30 AM) will discuss their recent projects, video and installation art, with Jens Hoffmann, Deputy Director, Exhibitions and Public Programs at the Jewish Museum.

Lucy Raven lives and works in New York. She works with animation, installation, and the live format of the illustrated lecture. Raven’s films and installations have been exhibited internationally, including at MoMA (New York, 2010); the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, 2012); mumok (Vienna, 2013); Images Festival (Toronto, 2013); the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco, 2014); Portikus (Frankfurt, Germany, 2014); the Berlinale and Oberhausen (Germany, 2013/2015) and Wavelengths at the Toronto International Film Festival (2014). Over the last two years, Raven has been an artist in residence at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY, U.S.A.), where she recently premiered a new commission: a site-specific cinema built for a single (3D) image called Tales of Love and Fear (2015).

Dara Birnbaum's provocative video works are among the most influential and innovative contributions to the contemporary discourse on art and television. Through a dynamic televisual language of images, music and text, she exposes the media's embedded ideological meanings and posits video and media as a means of giving voice to the individual. Birnbaum’s work is currently on view in New York in the exhibitions Cut to Swipe, MoMA, and America is Hard to See, the Whitney Museum of American Art. Previous exhibitions were held at institutions, including: the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Jewish Museum, NY; Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Centre Pompidou, Paris; MACBA, Barcelona; MuMOK, Vienna; and The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo;. Retrospective exhibitions include: Museu Serralves, Porto; S.M.A.K., Ghent; and the Kunsthalle, Vienna. Her work has been represented in documenta 7, 8, and 9 and an impressive number of Venice biennales. She has been the recipient of many distinguished awards, including: the TV Picture Prize, International Festival of Video and Electronic Arts in Locarno, Switzerland; the American Film Institute's Maya Deren Award for Independent Film and Video Artists; Harvard University’s Certificate in Recognition of Service and Contribution to the Arts; and Carnegie Mellon University’s Alumni Recognition Award. Birnbaum is represented by the Marian Goodman Gallery, NY – Paris – London.
