ETHEL Performs the String Quartets of Julia Wolfe

The acclaimed contemporary string quartet ETHEL performs the complete string works of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Julia Wolfe: Four MarysEarly that summerDig Deep, and Blue Dress for String Quartet.

Wolfe's string quartets, "combine the violent forward drive of rock music with an aura of minimalist serenity [using] the four instruments as a big guitar, whipping psychedelic states of mind into frenzied and ecstatic climaxes" (The New Yorker). This is the first performance of all of Wolfe's string quartets at one time, on one stage.  

Presented in conjunction with Martha Rosler: Irrespective, the exhibition of fellow New York City cultural icon Martha Rosler, closing on Sunday, March 3.

  • Ticket holders are encouraged to arrive promptly, as seating is not guaranteed once a program has begun.

  • If your ticket was emailed to you, present the ticket on your mobile device or the print-out of your ticket.
  • Tickets purchased for events and programs at the Museum include admission to the galleries on the day of the program during regular Museum hours.
