The Power of Language

Tour

Friday, March 9, 2018
2 – 3 pm
Floor 3

Join us for a weekly series of in-depth explorations of select artworks on view in Scenes from the Collection, the Museum’s dynamic collection exhibition featuring nearly 600 works from antiquities to contemporary art—many of which are on view for the first time.

Language has the power to heal, to harm, and to strengthen identity. Nelly Silagy Benedek, Senior Director of Education, explores how two paintings—Mel Bochner's The Joys of Yiddish (2012) and William Anastasi's Untilted (Jew), (1987)—engage with the role of language in society.
