The Ride Ahead (2024)
97 minutes
For grades 8 — 12
Screening and Q&A with Dan Habib and Samuel Habib, directors
Samuel Habib's goals are typical for a 21-year-old, yet every rite of passage is fraught with challenges because of unexpected seizures and uncontrollable movements attributed to a rare genetic disorder. Friends’ homes are inaccessible to his wheelchair, and his labored speech and use of a communication device are barriers to a social life. A turning point comes when Habib starts talking to disabled adults who have been through all he is experiencing now. When Habib begins to channel their insights, a roadmap for himself and for other young adults like him begins to take shape.
Content warning: This film features a conversation about sex.
This film will be shown with open captions, and audio description devices will be available.
Free program. To register, please call 212.423.3254 or email moviesthatmatter@thejm.org.
