Adult Studio Workshop

Sculpting the Abstracted Figure

Classes

Thursday, February 6, 2020
5:30 – 8 pm
Floor 4 Studio

Create a suggestive vessel in this three-session ceramics workshop taught by artist Kristen Jensen and inspired by the distinctively abstracted human figures in the exhibition Rachel Feinstein: Maiden Mother Crone.

Working with clay, participants will receive instruction in hand-building techniques such as pinch pot, slab, and coil construction to shape an expressive form. After finishing with underglazes, burnishing, slip, and carving patterns, the works will be kiln fired and completed in the studio with wax finish, paint, and other decorative elements.

Adult Studio Workshops provide all materials and welcome all skill levels.

Kristen Jensen lives and works in Queens, New York. Her interdisciplinary practice often reinterprets quotidian experiences and domestic objects in diverse mediums. Recent shows include a solo exhibition "Lighter, Later" and performance "Some Grace ll" at 17ESSEX, and “Everything Speaks” with Ben Dowell at GEARY. She has also exhibited at Simone Subal, Wallspace, Nicelle Beauchene, and Bortolami. In summer 2019, she made work at St. John's Pottery in Minnesota through a fellowship from the Jerome Foundation. She has been an artist in residence at Watershed, Abrons AIRspace, and Shandaken Projects at Storm King.
