Collage: New Ways of Making Images

Classes

Thursday, June 24, 2021
1 – 3 pm
Zoom, Virtual Program

This program is at capacity. If you have questions or would like to receive advance notification about future programs, please email info@thejm.org.

Learn several different collage techniques in this two-part virtual workshop taught by artist Sheryl Oppenheim. Drawing inspiration from innovative mid-century magazine design on view in the exhibition Modern Look: Photography and the American Magazine, participants will focus on using magazine images--especially, but not only, photographic images--transforming them through the use of unexpected cutting techniques. In addition, students will learn how best to glue their collages, along with principles of composition to consider when designing a collage. The sky is the limit (unless you put something above the sky, which you can do with collage)!

Participants should have access to a computer with a camera and Wi-Fi and will receive a Zoom link prior to the program date.

$30 Jewish Museum Members; $35 General
Additional materials cost: $35
Please note that this is a two-session class. Ticket purchase is required and includes both sessions on June 17 & 24. All skill levels welcome.
