Authors Lisa Barr and James McAuley engage in a conversation about stolen Jewish art during the Holocaust, antisemitism and displacement after the war, and the reclamation of the art and the narrative. Moderated by Stephanie Butnick, host of Tablet's Unorthodox podcast.

About the Speakers:

Lisa Barr is the award-winning authour of Woman on Fire, The Unbreakables, and the historical thriller Fugitive Colors, a suspenseful tale of stolen art, love, lust, deception, and revenge on the eve of World War II. The novel won the Independent Publishers Book Award (IPPY) gold medal for "Best Literary Fiction 2014" and first prize at the Hollywood Film Festival (Opus Magnum Discovery Award). In addition, Lisa has served as an editor for The Jerusalem Post, managing editor of Today's Chicago Woman, managing editor of Moment magazine, and an editor/reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times. Among the highlights of her career, Lisa covered the famous "handshake" between the late Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, the late PLO leader Yasser Arafat, and President Bill Clinton at the White House. Lisa has been featured on Good Morning America, TODAY, Fox & Friends, and the Austrailian morning news show Sunrise for her work as an author, journalist, and blogger.

James McAuley is a Washington Post Global Opinions contributing columnist focusing on French and European politics and culture, and a former Paris correspondent. He is also a contributor to the New York Review of Books. He holds a Ph.D. in French history from the University of Oxford, where he was a Marshall Scholar. His book The House of Fragile Things has received critical acclaim from The Wall Street Journal, Art Newspaper, Economist, New Yorker, Financial Times, New York Review of Books, Guardian, and Nation. 

Stephanie Butnick is a deputy editor of Tablet Magazine and a host of the Unorthodox podcast. She is the author, along with her co-hosts, of The Newish Jewish Encyclopedia: From Abraham to Zabar's and Everything in Between. She has also written for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
