Zoom, Virtual Program
This series of three classes will focus on close looking at works of art on view in New York: 1962-1964 and their relationship to the Jewish Museum’s institutional history through an exploration of the sprawling two-floor exhibition. During these years, the Jewish Museum’s director Alan Solomon transformed the museum into one of the most important venues for the exhibition of contemporary art. Emerging in this context, a generation of New York-based painters, sculptors, dancers, filmmakers, and poets rose to prominence, incorporating material directly from their urban surroundings and producing works that were as rich and complex as the city itself.
Topics for the course are: Materials and Materiality, Language and Mass Media, and The Body. Each tour is led by a Jewish Museum educator and is one hour in length including Q&A. Classes take place over Zoom.
Tuesdays, October 25, November 1 and 8
Tickets: $45 General; $36 Jewish Museum Members
Please note that this is a live virtual three-session class, which will not be recorded for later viewing. Ticket purchase is required and includes all sessions.
