My Parent, Neal (2022)

Parent and daughter, Neal and Hannah, discuss Neal's gender transition that began at age 62. Fluid transitions and animated memories depict the evolution of their relationship and Neal's personal milestones. Directed by Hannah Saidiner.

Joe’s Violin (2016)
24 minutes
A 91-year-old Holocaust survivor donates his violin—purchased in a displaced person’s camp after World War II—to a public-school instrument drive. This Academy Award nominated documentary short tells the survivor’s story and that of the 12-year-old Bronx girl who receives his violin.  Directed by Kahane Cooperman and Raphaela Neihausen.

Movies that Matter: Film Screenings for Schools

In this semiannual program, the Jewish Museum invites middle and high school students and teachers to view award-winning documentary films that examine current social issues such as representation and identity, immigration, and civil rights, followed by discussions with filmmakers. This year, Movies That Matter celebrates 25 years of programming by revisiting some or our most popular and powerful screenings to date.
