In this two-session in-person workshop taught by artist and educator Sheryl Oppenheim, learn how to make Suminagashi marbled paper, then make a simple artist book using these papers. In the first class, participants will explore Suminagashi, the Japanese form of marbling practiced on plain water that is distinguished by its patterns that resemble natural forms such as wood grain and smoke. In the second class, participants will use their Suminagashi papers to create a pocket-sized artist book using the meander structure and collage. This class is loosely inspired by the work of Bruno Munari and his "libri illeggibili," or illegible books. At the end of the second class, everyone will take home at least one small book made using Suminagashi.
All skill levels welcome; all materials provided.
Tickets: $125 General; $100 Members
Please note that this is a two-session workshop. Ticket purchase includes both class sessions on July 9 and 16.
