New York Jewish Film Festival 1993
The Jewish Museum and The Film Society of Lincoln Center present Artists, Activists and Ordinary People: Jews in 20th Century Europe.
Artists, Activist and Ordinary People: Jews in 20th Century Europe explores the dynamic first half of 20th century — during which Jewish artists, writers, intellectuals and others played major roles in many progressive social and political movements. Twentieth century history often seems dominated by the destruction of World War II and its aftermath, sometimes overshadowing the extraordinary contributions of the early part of the century. This year’s festival is part of an ongoing reexamination of 20th century Jewish experience, a process which began with our 1992 festival Reemergence: Jewish Life in Eastern Europe.
The festival has been made possible, in part, by a generous gift from The Martin and Doris Payson Charitable Foundation.
