New York Jewish Film Festival 1994
The Jewish Museum and The Film Society of Lincoln Center present Tradition and Renewal: Jews in the New Europe.
Tradition and Renewal: Jews in the New Europe examines the extraordinary and wrenching changes taking place in Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, and Germany as people adjust to the post-Cold War world. As former Jewish dissidents revisit their native countries, Jewish sons and dauhgters review the social histories through which their parents lived. Recent events have given these filmmakers new opportunities to examine the past and the present. While often sharply critical of both past and present, these filmmakers still envision a future very much beyond the Pale.
