Join us for a lecture on the current exhibition Jim Dine: Hiroshima, led by Senior Curator Mason Klein. Recently acquired by the Museum, Jim Dine's Hiroshima series (1982-83) highlights the artist's politically charged work and his endeavors to support anti-nuclear protests. The 11 works evoke the annihilation and despair unleashed by the atomic bombs the United States dropped in 1945 on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, at the end of World War II.
Dine's art is an intensely personal exploration of autobiography, often reflected upon through reocurring, idiosyncratic motifs such as tools, hearts, robes (often considered self-portraits), trees, and a handful of other quotidian objects.
Please RSVP to confirm your attendance. We hope to see you there!
This virtual lecture is exclusive to Jewish Museum members. Join today, or renew your membership to join the Members Appreciation Month celebration. To learn more, call 212.660.1519, email jmmembership@thejm.org, or visit TheJewishMuseum.org/Join.
