Death by Numbers (2025)
For Grades 9-12
Screening and Q&A with Kim A. Snyder, director and Sam Fuentes, writer and subject
A collaboration between writer Sam Fuentes, who survived the Parkland High School shooting, and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Kim A. Snyder, Death by Numbers breaks through an American society increasingly numb to gun violence. Interweaving Sam’s evocative poetry and footage of the shooter’s harrowing sentencing trial, the film shares Sam’s journey to reclaim her power. As she prepares to confront the gunman who left her wounded and who killed classmates in her Holocaust Studies class, Sam and her teacher examine complex questions of collective hate and consider what restorative justice looks like for the victims involved.
Content Warning: This film includes explicit language and an overt focus on trauma and its mental health effects. Suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, and survivor’s guilt are among the survivors’ issues discussed in the film.
