A Closer Look: Art History Seminar
Chagall: Love, War, and Exile
Join us on select Mondays for an in-person course inspired by objects in the Jewish Museum Collection and led by Nelly Silagy Benedek, Deputy Director, Education & Programs. Classes include a discussion in the newly opened Wilf Family Salon and close looking in the galleries.
In September of 2013, the Jewish Museum presented the exhibition Chagall: Love, War, and Exile (Sep. 15, 2013 – Feb. 2, 2014) foregrounding Chagall’s lesser-known works from the 1930s and 1940s. Explore the art Chagall produced in response to the suffering inflicted by WWII and the Holocaust and discover the unexpected imagery he used to express both collective trauma and personal loss.
Course topics:
Monday, May 4: Chagall and the Avant-Garde
Monday, May 11: Chagall: Love, War, and Exile
Tickets: $48 General; $40 Jewish Museum members, students, and seniors.
Price includes both sessions.
