Chagall and the Avant-Garde
In this two-session class (October 19 and 26), taught by Nelly Silagy Benedek, Deputy Director, Education & Programs, delve into two formative periods in Marc Chagall’s life as an artist. In session one, learn how Chagall absorbed the lessons of Cubism and Orphism when he was in Paris and translated these new ideas and innovative stylistic approaches into his own personal visual language. Then, in part two, explore the art Chagall produced in response to the suffering inflicted by World War II and the Holocaust and discover the unexpected imagery he used to express both collective trauma and personal loss.
Tickets: $54 General; $40 Jewish Museum members, students, and seniors
Price includes both sessions, as well as same day admission to the Museum.
