About Ben Lenovitz:
New Yorker Ben Lenovitz started his on-the-spot paintings when an antique shop in Osaka, Japan invited him to paint rapid-fire images of NYC icons such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building for a fair. As the fair week pressed on, people asked him to draw their cats and dogs, which they had ready to show him on their phones. He had never painted a dog or cat before but immediately loved painting their funny and expressive faces. Not one animal was the same. His time in Osaka was an a-ha moment for Lenovitz and the beginning of his career as a pet portrait artist. Back in New York City, Lenovitz took up residency as an in-house pet portrait artist at Fishs Eddy and has since painted thousands of pets from dogs and cats to less predictable ones such as donkeys, turtles, bulls, spiders, and even a few crabs!
PS: The irony of this story is Lenovitz is incredibly allergic to dogs and cats, but by some crazy happenstance has found a way to be around them all the time, no inhaler needed!
