May. 6, 2025 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Discover the history of the Jewish community in 16th and 17th century Amsterdam, and learn how the Book of Esther was seen as a source of artistic inspiration for Rembrandt and his contemporaries. The first session of this two-part virtual course will explore a selection of paintings, prints, decorative objects, and Jewish ceremonial art in the Jewish Museum’s special exhibition The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt (March 7 – August 10, 2025) highlighting the vibrancy of Amsterdam in the 1600s. Next, take an in-depth look at the art of painter and printmaker Rembrandt van Rijn and learn more about printmaking techniques and the power of visual sources to spread information.

Tickets: $30 General; $24 Jewish Museum members

Each tour is led by a Jewish Museum educator and is one hour in length including Q&A. Classes take place over Zoom.

Please note that this is a live virtual two-session class, which will not be recorded for later viewing. Ticket purchase includes both sessions on May 6 and 13.
