Per Diem Access Educator

The Per Diem Access Educator works with school, family, and adult audiences with disabilities to facilitate interactive, multisensory gallery tours, studio workshops, and special programs for the Education Department in a freelance capacity.  Jewish Museum  Access Educators engage visitors who are blind/have low vision; visitors with memory loss; visitors with developmental or learning disabilities and accommodate a range of access needs.  The ideal candidate is someone who is warm and energetic; interested in inclusivity and community-building; and who possesses a strong background in art history, studio art, and/or museum teaching.  Availability to teach both Sunday and weekday programs preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and facilitate gallery tours and studio art workshops for visitors with disabilities including those with memory loss, low vision, and developmental and learning differences
  • Collaborate with staff and fellow educators on creating programs, developing new partnerships and trainings, and reflecting on program growth
  • Participate in lectures and walkthroughs in conjunction with temporary and collection exhibitions
  • Contribute to the growing Jewish Museum access community

Requirements:

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Previous inquiry and object- based teaching experience in a museum setting required
  • Preferred fields of study for Bachelor’s or Master’s degree include Fine Art, Art History, Disability Studies, or Museum Education or related field
  • Comfort with art materials and facilitating studio experiences
  • A flexible schedule, with both Sunday and weekday availability preferred
  • Willingness to travel throughout NYC for off-site programs
