Winter/Spring 2018 Season of Family Programs Begins at the Jewish Museum in January

New York, NY, January 3, 2018 - The Jewish Museum launches its winter/spring 2018 season of family programs in January with an array of concerts, art workshops, and more.

The concert line-up for the year kicks off with David Weinstone and the Music for Aardvarks Band on January 21.  Among other programs on the schedule are The Paper Bag Players on March 11, the annual Freedom Art Jam Art & Dance Party on March 25; drop-in art workshops; and family art activities.

The Music for Aardvarks Band celebrates being a New York City kid with catchy favorites such as “Modern Art,” “Bagel,” and “Taxi!” Ages 2 - 5

The Pop Ups
Sunday, February 25, 11:30 am
Tickets: $18 general public, $14 Jewish Museum family members

The Grammy-nominated band presents a special acoustic concert featuring live drawing, puppets, and a costume party for the holiday of Purim. Ages 3 - 8

The Paper Bag Players: That’s Absurd
Sunday, March 11, 11:30 am
Tickets: $18 general public, $14 Jewish Museum family members

The new fun-filled production from the famed Paper Bags blends cardboard and paper sets, whimsical stories, lovable characters, and live music that will have families dancing in the aisles. Ages 3 - 8

Hopalong Andrew Band
Sunday, April 22, 11:30 am

Singing cowboy Andrew Vladeck and his band of world-class Americana musicians adapt traditional folk and classic country songs for city slickers in this Earth Day performance. Ages 2 - 7

KB Whirly and Friends
Sunday, May 6, 11:30 am
Tickets: $18 general public, $14 Jewish Museum family members

One-man band KB Whirly (Keith Wasserman) juggles multiple instruments and welcomes special guests to perform a mix of acoustic folk and blues. Ages 2 - 6


FAMILY DAY

Freedom Art Jam Art & Dance Party for Passover

Free with Museum Admission

A festive afternoon celebrates Passover with the soulful sounds of ShirLaLa; themed workshops for kids to craft holiday artifacts and freedom paintings; a giant collaborative art installation; and gallery tours. Ages 3 & up

ART EXPLORERS
Tuesdays, January 30, February 20, March 20, April 10, May 15, 4 pm – 5 pm
Tickets: $10 general public, $8 Jewish Museum Family Members

Preschoolers and their adult companions can explore Scenes from the Collection, the Museum’s new collection exhibition, through themed tours and engaging gallery activities, followed by a visit to the Museum’s art studio. Ages 3 - 4


DROP-IN ART PROGRAMS

Studio Art Sessions
Sundays through May 13,

Free with Museum Admission

Families explore new themes each week in these drop-in art workshops. Paint, draw, sculpt, or craft a work of art inspired by exhibitions on view. Ages 3 & up

Second Sundays Dig Drop-In
The second Sunday of each month through May 13,

Kids discover a passion for ancient artifacts in the Museum’s simulated archaeological dig, open on the second Sunday of each month. Ages 3 - 10

Archaeology Mondays
Mondays, January 15, February 19, March 19, April 2, & May 7, 3 pm – 5 pm
Free with Museum Admission

Unique in New York City, the Jewish Museum’s simulated archaeological dig highlights replicas from ancient to modern times in a hands-on experience. Kids can collect stamps in a special passport each visit, and receive a gift after three digs. Ages 3 – 10

Vacation Week Drop-In Art Workshop: Global Inspirations
February 18-20, February 22-23, 1 pm – 4 pm
Free with Museum Admission

Kids can design colorful tapestries inspired by clothing in the Museum’s exhibition Veiled Meanings: Fashioning Jewish Dress, from the Collection of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Ages 3 & up

Passover Week Drop-In Art Workshop: Fantastical Storybook Collages
April 2, 3, & 5, 1 pm – 4 pm
Free with Museum Admission

Kids can design playful pop-up collage books that share family stories or a favorite moment from Passover. Ages 3 & up

Picture This!

Interactive art-viewing activities and a book reading from the PJ Library collection, followed by an opportunity to create original artworks and a concert at 11:30 am featuring an acclaimed performer. Ages 4 - 10


ACCESS FAMILY WORKSHOPS

Workshops for Kids with Disabilities
Sundays, February 4 & April 15, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Examine art on view and create a work of your own in these programs for families with children who have developmental and learning disabilities. Workshops include gallery activities and an art project. Ages 5 - 17

Admission: $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for senior citizens, $7.50 for students, free for visitors 18 and under and Jewish Museum members. Pay What You Wish on Thursdays from 5pm to 8pm.  Free on Saturdays and select Jewish holidays.
