Writing & Art: The Arcades

Workshop for Educators

Apr. 4, 2017 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Scheuer Auditorium

Explore the relationship between art and writing inspired by the exhibition, The Arcades: Contemporary Art and Walter Benjamin, featuring the work of contemporary artists through the lens of Benjamin’s magnum opus The Arcades Project. Innovative experimental poet Kenneth Goldsmith has created poems, intricately composed from existing texts, for each section of The Arcades exhibition, inviting viewers to discover connections between Benjamin’s categories and themes in the works of art on view. After viewing the exhibition with Museum educators, attend our workshop led by Goldsmith including readings of his original work.

Kenneth Goldsmith is an American poet. He is the founding editor of the online archive, UbuWeb and is a senior editor of PennSound at the University of Pennsylvania where he teaches writing. He has published ten books of poetry and is the author of a book of essays. In 2013, he was appointed the Museum of Modern Art's first poet laureate.
