Change the Name is an intimate portrayal of Black youth organizing on the west side of Chicago. The film follows a campaign by student activists and educators from Village Leadership Academy in Chicago to change the name of a local park to honor abolitionists Anna Murray and Frederick Douglass, instead of the enslaver for whom it was originally named. Over three years the group takes on governmental bureaucracy, patronizing adults, and obstacles created by the global pandemic.

Live virtual Q&A May 18, 11 am EDT with Cai Thomas, director and Bianca Jones, educator and film subject.
