Free Activities and Access to Participating Museums
New York, NY (May 28, 2025) - Eight museums and several neighborhood partners are once again coming together for the 47th annual Museum Mile Festival, New York City’s biggest block party, which will take place, rain or shine, on Tuesday, June 10, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Presented as part of Founded By NYC, the citywide commemoration of the 400th anniversary of New York’s founding as a municipality, this celebration of art and culture will feature live programs, musical performances, exhibitions, and art-making activities for all ages, as well as additional events. Festival attendees can walk Museum Mile on Fifth Avenue between 82nd Street and 110th Street while visiting eight of New York City’s finest cultural institutions, all of which will be open to the public with free admission throughout the event.
The museums participating in this long-standing collaboration are: The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Neue Galerie New York; Guggenheim New York; Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum; The Jewish Museum; Museum of the City of New York; El Museo del Barrio; and The Africa Center.
The Church of the Heavenly Rest, the New York Academy of Medicine, The Asia Society, AKC Museum of the Dog, the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World, the New York City Civic Engagement People’s Bus, and 92NY will also participate in the festival as neighborhood partners.
The Museum Mile Festival’s opening ceremony takes place at 5:45 p.m. at the Museum of the City of New York (1220 Fifth Avenue). Audiences can share the festivities using #MuseumMileFestival on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and X throughout the evening.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (82nd Street)
Kick off your summer at The Met and celebrate 400 Years of New York. Create art, catch a performance, and check out our current exhibitions, including the newly opened P.S. Art: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of New York City Kids.
Neue Galerie New York (86th Street)
Neue Galerie New York will be open to the public free of charge from 6 to 9 p.m., offering access to the galleries. Austrian Masterworks from the Neue Galerie is on view. The Book Store and Design Shop will remain open late, too!
Guggenheim New York (89th Street)
Guggenheim New York will host a series of outdoor activities on Fifth Ave including family art-making, leaf rubbings, street tree identification, and sidewalk water painting tied to its current exhibition, Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers. Inside the museum, there will be access to all exhibitions as well as live piano performances activating Johnson's Sanguine.
Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum (91st Street)
Cooper Hewitt invites attendees to explore its current exhibition, Making Home—Smithsonian Design Triennial. Installed throughout the Andrew and Louise Carnegie Mansion, the exhibition features 25 commissions that illustrate the ways design is embedded in contemporary life. Inspired by the exhibition and the 400th anniversary of the founding of New York City, the museum will host a drawing activity about the places, people and things that make the city home.
The Jewish Museum (92nd Street)
The Jewish Museum presents the exhibitions, Ben Shahn, On Nonconformity and The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt. Outside on Fifth Avenue Frank London’s Klezmer Brass Allstars will perform high-energy Eastern European Yiddish music, klezmer, and a family art activity will be offered, Mini Poster Designs inspired by striking works in the Ben Shahn exhibition.
Museum of the City of New York (103rd-104th Streets)
Celebrate NYC’s 400th anniversary at the Museum of the City of New York with art, history, and hands-on fun for all ages. Enjoy exhibitions like Above Ground: Art from the Martin Wong Graffiti Collection and Urban Stomp: Dreams & Defiance on the Dance Floor, plus outdoor activities on Fifth Avenue—from street games and Bhangra dance to crafts, mapping, and artifact exploration. Featuring bilingual programming and a partnership with Cool Culture, enjoy live music, family-friendly workshops, and more.
El Museo del Barrio (104 - 105th Street)
Join El Museo del Barrio for music, art making and free access to current exhibitions, Mestre Didi: Spiritual Form and Candida Alvarez: Circle, Point, Hoop. El Museo will be joined by East Harlem organizations to celebrate the arts & culture that come from our lively neighborhood. Listen to music all night long by DJ, Chiquita Brujita, and make your own artwork with Museo educators to explore the colorful world of Candida Alvarez! RSVP here.
The Africa Center (110th Street)
The Africa Center is proud to present Sarah Elawad's When the War is Over. An exhibition that will transform the Center’s Fifth Avenue windows, When the War is Over offers a powerful and poetic visual statement that engages passersby in a conversation about culture, memory, and resilience, and related to the current conflict in Sudan. Inside the Center, visitors can explore the photography exhibition Between Nostalgia & Dreams, by Yusuf Ahmed. The Africa Center's celebration will also feature live music by Alsarah and the Nubatones.

Asia Society (70th Street)
Join the Asia Society on Museum Mile between 86th and 87th Street to learn more about our summer activities at 70th and Park. We’ll be passing out literature about our summer performances, film festivals, and exhibitions. You might even score exclusive savings! Bring the whole family to our tattoo station, and pick up coloring projects inspired by the traditional and contemporary Asian art in our museum collection.
Church of the Heavenly Rest (90th Street)
The Church of the Heavenly Rest welcomes everyone to experience its interactive historical tour, 96 Years on 90th Street. In the Nave, visitors may grab a snack, then scavenger-hunt
through a vibrant selection of photographs, artistic renderings and excerpts from our parish archives, from before our founding in 1929 to present day. Outdoors, families can enjoy turn-of-the-20th-century carnival games, along with performances by our Jazz Vespers Trio and the Queer Big Apple Corps.
The Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (at 85th Street)
The Institute for the Study of the Ancient World invites you to enjoy our latest exhibition, Rethinking Etruria, which delves into the still mysterious Etruscan culture. You can discover how AI is being used to visualize Etruscan temples or touch a 3D printed stele with text still being deciphered by experts! Stop by our stall on 5th avenue and for free postcards and posters from our latest exhibitions!
New York Academy of Medicine (103rd Street)
The New York Academy of Medicine at the corner of 103rd Street is about to celebrate 100 years of our iconic building on Museum Mile and 178 years of championing better health for ALL New Yorkers! Explore treasures from our world-renowned historical library, enjoy fun craft activities and photo ops, and snag a limited-edition giveaway. Come celebrate our legacy—and the future—with us!
The New York City Civic Engagement Commission People’s Bus
The NYC Civic Engagement Commission is excited to be returning to Museum Mile this year and connect with New Yorkers at this exciting festival. The People’s Money will be inviting residents to participate and decide how to spend part of the city’s budget while also introducing Tippy the Tender People’s Money Monster, a version of The People’s Bus who brings people together to learn about participatory budgeting.

Museum Mile received its name because of the cultural diversity and vast richness of the museums located on the stretch of Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side from 82nd Street to 110th Street. Since its inception, upwards of two million visitors have come from all over the country to take part in this annual celebration.
