The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Jewish Museum will present the New York Jewish Film Festival at the Film Society’s Walter Reade Theater and Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, January 13-26, 2016. This year’s 25th-anniversary edition will include a number of special programs, including a retrospective of film highlights from past festivals; an exhibition of posters from previous festival selections; a panel discussion bringing together some of New York’s finest film curators and programmers; a 20th-anniversary screening of Todd Solondz’s Welcome to the Dollhouse accompanied by the classic documentary Night and Fog, selected by Solondz; a Master Class on filmmaking by director Alan Berliner; continuous screenings of pivotal moments from 10 films seen in previous editions of the New York Jewish Film Festival; an evening of five shorts featuring such talents as Robert De Niro and Richard Kind; and an online anniversary publication looking back over the first 25 years of the festival. The Jewish Museum will present Oran Etkin’s Timbalooloo in two special concerts for families on Friday, December 25 at 11:30 am and 2 pm.  Etkin will be presenting a new production, "Sing Sing Sing - Benny Goodman in the Kingdom of Swing," incorporating music from Etkin's new CD for adults, What's New? Reimagining Benny Goodman, and playing it in a child-friendly way.  Together with his full five-member band, Etkin takes kids on an adventure through the Kingdom of Swing, meeting King Oliver, Duke Ellington, and a little boy named Benny Goodman who grows up to become the King of Swing.  Just as Benny Goodman was welcomed by the regal masters that came before him, children too are encouraged to express themselves and find their own voices in the Kingdom of Swing through this fun and interactive concert experience.

On Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2015, the Jewish Museum will host Dress Up, Dreidel Down Hanukkah Disco Party, its annual family Hanukkah fundraiser from 3pm to 5pm. This special event, which benefits the Jewish Museum, will feature celebratory holiday activities for adults, and children ages 2 through tweens.  The Jewish Museum is located at Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, Manhattan.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Jewish Museum will present the 25th annual New York Jewish Film Festival (NYJFF) at the Film Society’s Walter Reade Theater and Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, January 13-26, 2016. The festival is one of the oldest and most influential Jewish film festivals worldwide, unique in New York City, and one of the longest running partnerships of two major New York cultural institutions. Since its founding in 1992, the NYJFF has presented more than 675 films from 43 countries, of which 320 were world, U.S., or New York premieres, and many have gone on to win awards and gain wider distribution. This year’s lineup includes 38 features and shorts from 12 countries—21 screening in their world, U.S., or New York premieres—providing a diverse global perspective on the Jewish experience. The 25th edition will feature a retrospective of film highlights from previous festivals, a poster exhibition, a panel discussion, and other special programming in honor of the New York Jewish Film Festival’s silver anniversary to be announced shortly along with the complete festival schedule.

The Jewish Museum's fall 2015 slate of lectures, discussions, and events continues in December with a concert featuring acclaimed pianist Daniel Gortler and vocalists Lauren Flanigan and David Adam Moore; a literary evening with novelists Jami Attenberg and Anne Roiphe; and a behind-the-scenes look at the exhibition, Masterpieces & Curiosities: Alfred Stieglitz’s The Steerage.

The Jewish Museum will present The Word: Spoken, Sung, and Played, a concert featuring acclaimed Israeli pianist Daniel Gortler with  internationally renowned vocalists Lauren Flanigan (as narrator) and David Adam Moore (baritone) in a performance of Johannes Brahms's The Fair Magelone  (Die schöne Magelone) on Thursday, December 10 at 7:30pm. During the second half of the program, soprano Lauren Flanigan will sing Luciano Berio’s “A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man” from Epifanie with Daniel Gortler. This will be Ms. Flanigan’s first public New York City performance since 2010 when she was diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL). To conclude, Mr. Gortler, who has delighted audiences and critics with his concerts around the world and received praise for his technical mastery and musical ingenuity, will perform Franz Schubert’s Three Piano Pieces for solo piano.

Joanie Leeds and The Nightlights will perform a kids’ rock concert at The Jewish Museum on Sunday, December 20 at 2pm.  The Brooklyn-based kindie rocker Joanie Leeds and her band bring families to their feet with interactive, high energy performances incorporating a unique and playful sound ranging from pop-rock to gospel to country.  They will perform hits from her latest releases, Good Egg and Meshugana.

The Jewish Museum will present its annual Hanukkah Family Day, a fun-filled day of activities, on Sunday, December 6 from Noon to 4 pm.  A special highlight of the day will be a book signing with actress Amanda Peet and co-author Andrea Toyer, who will read from their new Hanukkah-themed children’s book, Dear Santa, Love, Rachel Rosenstein. In addition, kids can construct sculptural Hanukkah menorahs with funky found objects, dance to the music of ShirLaLa, see the Hanukkah story brought to life through a drawing performance with Jeff Hopkins, and explore the Museum’s world-famous collection of Hanukkah lamps.

The Jewish Museum will present the first museum exhibition focused on Isaac Mizrahi, the influential American fashion designer, artist, and entrepreneur. On view from March 18 to August 7, 2016, this survey exhibition explores Mizrahi’s unique position at the intersection of high style and popular culture.  While best known for his clothing design, Mizrahi’s creativity has expanded over a three decade career, moving beyond fashion to embrace acting, directing, set and costume design, writing, and cabaret performance. Beginning with his first collection in 1987 and running through the present day, Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History weaves together the many threads of Mizrahi's prolific output, juxtaposing work in fashion, film, television, and the performing arts.

The Jewish Museum presents The Wind Up: The Power of Pictures, the next in its popular series of after-hours events, on Thursday, November 19 from 8pm to 11pm. Featuring live music, a photo booth, and an open bar with beer, wine, and vodka, The Wind Up is inspired by The Power of Pictures: Early Soviet Photography, Early Soviet Film, which explores how early modernist photography influenced a new Soviet style while energizing and expanding the nature of the medium.  The evening includes a performance by the raucous dance band Romashka, fronted by Lithuanian-born singer Inna Barmash, and a set by DJ Spinach, known for his unique mixture of world music sounds.  

On Sunday, November 8, 92Y and the Jewish Museum will present celebrated curators Hans Ulrich Obrist and Jens Hoffmann in conversation at 92Y, in conjunction with the Museum’s new exhibition Unorthodox. Part of an ambitious program series tied to the exhibition, the event will feature Obrist, widely regarded as the most experimental and unconventional curator of his generation, in conversation with the Jewish Museum’s Jens Hoffmann, Deputy Director, Exhibitions and Public Programs and co-curator of Unorthodox. They will discuss the highly progressive curatorial strategies employed in their respective careers, while also delving into the history of curating and examining examples of radical curatorial practices that have emerged over the last 40 years.

The Jewish Museum's fall 2015 slate of lectures, discussions, and events continues in November with a series of public programs related to the new exhibition, Unorthodox, developed by the Jewish Museum and presented in collaboration with the 92nd Street Y - programs take place at the Jewish Museum unless otherwise noted.  Other highlights include a concert featuring bassist Robert Black, part of the Museum's partnership with Bang on a Can; a three-part adult studio workshop led by artist Jaqueline Cedar; and the next event in the popular after-hours series, The Wind Up.
