Enter the striking world of Modigliani at our family extravaganza honoring this celebrated artist. Design a whimsical collage portrait, sculpt a miniature head in clay, draw a model in our art studio, hear the swinging sounds of JoJo & the Pinecones with their folk-pop-jazz stylings, collaborate on a giant figurative sculpture, see highlights of Modigliani’s masterworks in an interactive gallery tour, and more.

Family Day Schedule

Noon – 4 pm: Drop-In Art Workshops


Colorful Collage Portraits
Piece together brilliant papers and textures along with drawing materials a whimsical portrait of yourself or someone in your family inspired by the unique portraits of Modigliani.
 
3-D Portraits
Sculpt a head of a figure using self-hardening clay inspired by the powerful sculptures found in the exhibition Modigliani Unmasked.

Giant Collaborative Figures
Collaborate as a family on giant figurative sculptures using tape, cardboard, colored board, and more in this larger-than-life work of art.

12:15 – 3:15 pm: Painted Transformations

Transform your face into a work of art by the Agostino Arts painters inspired by drawings and paintings of Modigliani.

1 – 3 pm: Draw and Paint a Model

Draw multiple poses of a model using a variety of drawing materials and water soluble crayons. Discover ways to quickly capture a character or figure in this drop-in session in our art studio.

12:15 and 2:15 pm: Two Concerts—JoJo & The Pinecones

Dance to the “jazzed-up pop and popped up jazz” of JoJo & The Pinecones as they perform playful tunes for all ages. Lead singer Joelle Lurie’s smooth and bold voice will be joined by an ensemble that features piano, bass, drums, trumpet and violin. In addition to their regular repertoire JoJo & The Pinecones will share early jazz from the era that Modigliani lived in Paris which includes American influences such as ragtime, Dixieland which quickly became popular in Europe.

JoJo & The Pinecones are Lincoln Center Resident Artists—an ensemble of highly trained jazz musicians who together present well-crafted and swinging jazz music with families in mind. Their recent release, "Night & Day", features a charming, robust and accessible collection of inspired original songs and thoughtfully curated and reimagined, family-friendly jazz standards.

1 and 3 pm: Spotlight Tours

An educator will conduct a brief gallery tour with a sketching opportunity that will spotlight drawings, sculpture, and paintings on view in the Modigliani Unmasked exhibition.
