Membership Associate

The Membership Associate is the point person for member communications, events, and sales across all channels, including onsite at the Museum. The Associate works collaboratively on strategies to increase membership conversion, retention, reactivation, and upgrades across all channels, and manages the Museum’s relationships with key vendors to plan and execute mail, email, and telemarketing campaigns throughout the year. The Associate is in constant communication with members and develops strategies to steward members into higher levels of giving, while also assisting with gift processing, reporting, and customer service. The Associate reports to the Director of Membership and Development Operations, and works closely with teams across the Museum, including Membership and Development Operations, Major Gifts, Visitor Experience, Audience Development, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively to facilitate all aspects of the member journey
    • Coordinate member benefits and acknowledgement and ensure timely fulfillment of membership materials
    • Oversee mailed monthly membership renewal series
    • Create, schedule, and send member email correspondence (welcome series, monthly erenewals, enews, event invitations)
    • Work with Audience Development on member outreach via social media
  • Work with key staff and vendors on seasonal lapsed/acquisition and upgrade campaigns in mail, email, and telemarketing channels
  • Work with Visitor Experience team to maximize member conversion onsite and ensure that members have a positive experience on every visit
    • Keep team members informed about member benefits and events and develop sales strategies
  • Coordinate member events virtually and at the Museum, including gallery talks, previews, Curator’s Choice Lectures, and more
  • Develop strategies to maximize member engagement, and reactivate and steward members up to higher levels of giving through personal outreach
  • Spearhead seasonal appeal fundraising efforts across all channels
  • Work closely with Audience Development on seasonal member newsletter content and strategy
  • Assist on member travel program research and marketing
  • Assist with gift processing and customer service as needed
  • Assist on tracking membership budget, revenue, and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 3-4 years’ experience in membership or development preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of donors
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience with Salesforce or other database preferred
  • Excellent project management and computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and interact with staff at all levels; be detail-oriented
  • Creative, analytical, energetic team player and self-starter with a good sense of humor and a strong desire to succeed
  • Willing to work overtime periodically as needed, in office and at events, including evenings, weekends, and some National holidays.
  • Interest in museums, cultural institutions, or nonprofits a plus
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO) authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief or other legal basis)
