February 2017 Programs at the Jewish Museum Focus on Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design

The Jewish Museum’s 2017 slate of lectures, discussions, and events continues in February with a lecture by guest curator Esther da Costa Meyer on Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design, and a concert by the low string quartet Bonjour.  Other highlights include a symposium on the Jews of Venice and gallery discussions on specific themes and topics related to current exhibitions.

The Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can Present a Performance by Bonjour

Release Date: January 24, 2017

New York, NY – On Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum will present the third concert of their 2016-2017 concert season featuring Bonjour, a low string quartet with drums/percussion founded in 2012 by bassist and composer Florent Ghys. Bonjour features Ghys as composer and double bassist, as well as Eleonore Oppenheim (double bass), Ashley Bathgate (cello), James Moore (guitars), and Owen Weaver (percussion). Accompanying the Jewish Museum’s exhibition, Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design, the concert will feature Bonjour in works from their self-titled album, which was released in August 2016 on Cantaloupe Music. Pierre Chareau, originally from Bordeaux, rose to become a major figure in 20th century design. Ghys, also originally from Bordeaux, is one of New York’s most creative composer-performers of the early 21st century.

David Weinstone and The Music for Aardvarks Band Perform Family Concert at the Jewish Museum Sunday, February 12

Release Date: January 24, 2017

David Weinstone and The Music for Aardvarks Band will perform a concert for kids at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 12 at 11:30 am. Families will hear favorite songs celebrating being a kid in New York City such as City Kid, Taxi, Jack Hammer Joe and Modern Art. David Weinstone, founder of Music for Aardvarks, explains, "our shows are rockin', and we try to have as much audience participation as possible. We've even had kids come up on stage with us to sing or dance."

Everything Must Go!

Final Weeks to Experience Take Me (I’m Yours) at the Jewish Museum

Release Date: January 18, 2017

The last day to see Take Me (I’m Yours)the unique, participatory exhibition on view at the Jewish Museum that allows visitors to touch and take home the works of art on view—is on Sunday, February 5, 2017.  On the final day, Daniel Spoerri’s sculpture, Eat Art Happening, a skeleton made entirely of sugar paste, will be available for consumption by museum visitors.

Picture This! Monthly Family Program Series Continues January 29

Release Date: January 9, 2017

The Jewish Museum will continue Picture This!, a new monthly series of multifaceted family programs, on Sunday, January 29 beginning at 10am.  Each monthly Picture This! program combines a gallery experience exploring art on view with fun, interactive activities and a storybook reading. Families will also enjoy a snack, create art in a studio, and join other families to experience a concert featuring a top children’s music performer. Picture This! is made possible thanks to a $25,000 grant awarded to the Museum by PJ Library®, a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

Photography and Filming Policy

Members of the media may photograph or film within approved areas of the Jewish Museum for the purpose of news coverage. Photo and video shoots must be approved by the Communications Department and arranged at least 48 hours in advance. All organized photo or film shoots inside the Museum require an escort by a member of the Communications staff. Please contact us for more information or to discuss scheduling a shoot.
