The Jewish Museum is presenting Mizrahi Mondays, a fun-filled drop-in art workshop for families on July 11, 18, and 25, inspired by works on view in the current exhibition, Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History. These workshops are FREE with museum admission.

The Wind Up, the Jewish Museum’s popular after-hours series, presents Weirdo Night with Dynasty Handbag, a night of experimental comedic performance by host Dynasty Handbag and special guests Jaimie Warren and Morgan Bassichis, on Thursday, June 30 from 8pm to 11pm. The evening also include Dance-Y-Oke (attendees dancing along with music videos ranging from Single Ladies by Beyoncé to Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush); an open beer and wine bar; and the exhibitions Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History and Roberto Burle Marx: Brazilian Modernist, open for viewing throughout the evening.

The Jewish Museum continues its spring 2016 slate of lectures, discussions, and events in May with performances by Mariachi Flor de Toloache as part of the annual Museum Mile Festival and Dynasty Handbag at the next event in the popular after-hours series, The Wind Up.  Other highlights include a lecture by Dr. Charles Small, Director of the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy; and gallery discussions on specific themes and topics in the exhibitions Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History and Roberto Burle Marx: Brazilian Modernist.

The Jewish Museum will present Wish You Were Here: George Gershwin on Tuesday, May 31 at 6:30pm.  Jens Hoffmann, Deputy Director, Exhibitions and Public Programs, will speak with "George Gershwin" as portrayed by pianist and playwright Hershey Felder. Felder will perform beloved Gershwin works including Rhapsody in Blue in its entirety, selections from Porgy and Bess, and Gershwin’s own arrangement of ‘S Wonderful and The Man I Love.  The evening will also feature an interactive component, integrating questions and comments from Twitter and other social media platforms received in advance.

In November 2016, the Jewish Museum will present the first U.S. exhibition focused on French designer and architect Pierre Chareau (1883-1950). Showcasing rare furniture, light fixtures, and interiors, as well as designs for important projects in Europe and America, including the famous Maison de Verre in Paris and the Robert Motherwell House in East Hampton, Long Island, the exhibition will bring together rarely-seen works from major public and private collections around the world. Pierre Chareau: Modern Architecture and Design will be on view from November 4, 2016 – March 26, 2017.

A newly created series of five hanging sculptures by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes will be on view in the Jewish Museum’s lobby beginning May 6, creating a vibrant, colorful canopy overhead. Titled Gamboa II (2016), the installation is composed of candy-colored materials including plastic shapes, paper flowers, and other shiny trinkets, and produced with the help of Rio de Janeiro’s famed samba schools—whose craftspeople work year-round creating costumes, dances, and elaborate floats in preparation for Carnival. Milhazes’s work intertwines visual references to Brazilian popular and folk traditions, as well as its modern artistic movements such as Constructivism and Tropicália. Brazilian landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx’s Op art-style pathways for Copacabana Beach and the lush botanical garden near her own studio also influence her approach to line, color, and texture. Gamboa II is on view from May 6 through September 18, 2016 as part of the ongoing series Using Walls, Floors, and Ceilings, which brings newly commissioned contemporary art to the Jewish Museum’s Skirball Lobby.

The Jewish Museum continues its 2016 slate of lectures, discussions, and events in May with Isaac Mizrahi, the influential American fashion designer, artist, and entrepreneur, in discussion with choreographer Mark Morris; and “George Gershwin,” as portrayed by pianist and playwright Hershey Felder, in conversation with the Jewish Museum's Jens Hoffmann.  Other highlights include artist Andrea Bowers speaking about her latest projects; a panel of young, New York-based fashion designers exploring the influence of contemporary art on their work; and a performance by musician/artist Arto Lindsay.

From Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro to Biscayne Boulevard in Miami Beach, throughout Brazil and around the world, the innovative and prolific work of Roberto Burle Marx (1909–1994) has made him one of the most prominent landscape architects of the twentieth century.  From May 6 through September 18, 2016, the Jewish Museum will present the first New York City exhibition to focus on Burle Marx in more than two decades, and the first exhibition in the United States to showcase the full range of his artistic output. Through nearly 140 works, Roberto Burle Marx: Brazilian Modernist will explore the richness and breadth of the artist’s oeuvre – his landscape architecture, painting, sculpture, theater design, textiles, and jewelry – as well as related works by contemporary artists and examples from Burle Marx’s varied collections.  Following its New York presentation, the exhibition will travel to Berlin, Germany and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Jewish Museum will present Isaac Mizrahi Family Day, a fun-filled day of activities, on Sunday, May 15 from 12 noon to 4pm.  Families can celebrate the striking and colorful world of fashion on view in the exhibition, Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History, at a huge drop-in art workshop, hear the hip Grammy award-winning music of Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, and take gallery tours of the exhibition.

On Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum will present Bang on a Can: Performance by Arto Lindsay in  conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Roberto Burle Marx: Brazilian Modernist. Lindsay’s program, which will be announced from the stage, will include music that echoes themes of cultural experimentation and cross-pollination,  drawing on elements from American and Brazilian rock, pop, experimental music, and improvisation.

The Jewish Museum will host a special presentation of the popular after-hours series, The Wind Up, with a comedy revue featuring a diverse lineup of comedians on Thursday, March 24 at 8pm. Organized by Josh Gondelman, writer for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and co-author of You Blew It, the lineup includes sets by Ted Alexandro (Comedy Central Presents), Sean Patton (Comedy Central Half Hour), Michelle Wolf (Late Night with Seth Meyers), and 2 Dope Queens (Phoebe Robinson and The Daily Show’s Jessica Williams) with a performance by musical guest Anya Marina.

In conjunction with its new exhibition, Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History, the Jewish Museum will present an extensive series of public programs, including Isaac Mizrahi, the influential American fashion designer, artist, and entrepreneur, in conversation with Wendy Goodman, Design Editor of New York Magazine on April 7 and with choreographer Mark Morris on May 24.  Other highlights include a screening of Unzipped, the 1995 film about Mizrahi, followed by a Q&A with the artist, at Film Forum on April 10; and a panel discussion featuring young designers discussing the current fashion landscape.
