New York, NY, August 11, 2023– The Jewish Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), have jointly acquired a pair of rare Torah finials (1729) by Abraham Lopes de Oliveyra (1657-1750), the earliest known Jewish silversmith to work in England. The pair of finials are currently on view at the Jewish Museum in New York City through late October. The pair will then be on view at the MFA beginning December 2023.

New York, NY, June 16, 2023— The Jewish Museum presents Tissot and the Bible, an installation of original designs by the French painter James Tissot (1836-1902) from a group of more than 350 paintings related to his goal of illustrating the Hebrew Bible. Spanning all of the books, from Genesis to the Prophets, Tissot’s watercolor illustrations are some of the most beloved and sought-after images in the Jewish Museum’s collection. The biblical stories are illustrated in cinematic vignettes that have influenced popular culture for decades. Tissot and the Bible is on view through Spring 2024.

New York, NY, June 15, 2023— The Jewish Museum will present the first survey exhibition in the United States of Marta Minujín, a defining force of Latin American art whose trajectory intersected with the major artistic developments of the postwar period while reflecting a singular spirit and vision infused by her sharp intellect, irreverent humor, and performative presence. On view from November 17, 2023 through March 31, 2024, Marta Minujín: Arte! Arte! Arte! will reflect the genre-defying arc of the artist’s six-decade career.

New York, NY, April 3, 2023—The Jewish Museum will present Mood of the moment: Gaby Aghion and the house of Chloé, the first museum exhibition honoring the visionary Jewish entrepreneur Gaby Aghion (1921-2014) and her legacy as the founder of the French fashion house Chloé. Casting a new light on the label’s 70-year history with nearly 150 garments as well as never-before-exhibited sketches and documents from the Chloé Archive, this exhibition highlights Aghion's vision of effortless, luxurious fashion, and the work of iconic designers who began their careers with the brand, including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Phoebe Philo. The exhibition will showcase Aghion as a leader whose work altered the course of the global fashion industry in liberating women's bodies from the restrictive attitudes and styles of the time, as well as pioneering the emergence of luxury ready-to-wear. Mood of the moment: Gaby Aghion and the house of Chloé will be on view at the Jewish Museum from October 13, 2023, through February 18, 2024.

New York, NY, March 21, 2023--The Jewish Museum presents After “The Wild”: Contemporary Art from The Barnett and Annalee Newman Foundation Collection, an exhibition highlighting contemporary artworks by 47 intergenerational and internationally based artists made between 1963 and 2023. These works are part of a larger gift to the Museum in 2018 comprising artworks made by the recipients of The Barnett and Annalee Newman Foundation Award (see below for the full list of artists). After "The Wild": Contemporary Art from The Barnett and Annalee Newman Foundation Collection is on view at the Jewish Museum from March 24 through October 1, 2023.

New York, NY, March 20, 2023–The Jewish Museum commissioned artist Rachel Feinstein to create a new piece of Judaica for the Museum’s collection. Inspired by two historical forms—medieval-style architectural Jewish marriage rings and tower-shaped ceremonial spice containers, both represented in the Jewish Museum’s collection—Feinstein, in collaboration with IPPOLITA, created the “Marriage Ring,” a fantastical ring, almost a foot tall, in the shape of a castle rendered in sterling silver dipped in 18-karat gold. The ring will be on view in the Museum’s collection exhibition Scenes from the Collection beginning in May.

New York, NY, March 16, 2022— The Jewish Museum held its 37th Annual Purim Ball at the Plaza on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Over 1,200 distinguished guests were in attendance for the festive dinner and After Party hosted by the Jewish Museum’s Young Patrons group. This year’s Purim Ball raised a record $3.2 million for the Museum. The event honored Brad S. Karp, Chairman, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, and Bang on a Can, the multi-faceted performing arts organization.

New York, NY, February 28, 2023 — The Jewish Museum presents The Sassoons, an exhibition that reveals the fascinating story of a remarkable Jewish family, highlighting their pioneering role in trade, art collecting, architectural patronage, and civic engagement from the early 19th century through World War II. On view from March 3 through August 13, 2023, the exhibition follows four generations from Iraq to India, China, and England, featuring a rich selection of works collected by family members over time.
