Vered and the Babes Perform Upbeat Family Concert at the Jewish Museum Sunday, February 21

Release Date: February 9, 2016

Vered and the Babes will star in a hip concert for families at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 21 at 11:30 am. The band, featuring Vered Benhorin with Rob Jost and Matt Hilgenberg, performs funny, poignant, and upbeat melodies, reminiscent of doo-wop, from their hit albums Good Morning My Love, praised by the Parents’ Choice Foundation as having “warmth enough to melt the polar ice cap.” Vered and the Babes play a variety of instruments, ranging from French horn and trumpet to pots and pans, with kids and parents alike jumping and singing along. The concert program includes songs geared to helping new parents bond with their babies as well as tunes for children up to age 6.

Sights and Sounds: Global Film and Video Exhibition Series Concludes

Release Date: January 29, 2016

The Jewish Museum's exhibition series Sights and Sounds: Global Film and Video concludes with a five-month presentation of highlighted works, featuring one film from each of the 25 participating countries, on view from February 5 to June 30, 2016. As an overview of the series, this presentation will provide a global perspective on the current state of contemporary video art and draw connections between works from opposite ends of the world.

February 2016 Programs at the Jewish Museum Feature Writers Deborah Davis and Blake Gopnik, The Mivos Quartet, Symposium Inspired by Unorthodox Exhibition, and More

The Jewish Museum's winter 2016 slate of lectures, discussions, and events continues in February with author Deborah Davis in conversation with art critic Blake Gopnik about her new book on Andy Warhol; The Mivos Quartet performing the music of Steve Reich as part of the Museum’s ongoing partnership with Bang on a Can; and a symposium exploring unconventional approaches to museum programming in conjunction with the current exhibition, Unorthodox.  Other offerings include a panel discussion featuring contemporary Jewish novelists Shulem Deen, Christopher Noxon, and Sigal Samuel; scholar Alan Levenson discussing religion with author Susan Miller Katz; and A Closer Look gallery talks of current exhibitions.

The Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can Present Bang on a Can: Unorthodox
The Mivos Quartet Plays Steve Reich

Release Date: January 26, 2016

On Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum will present Bang on a Can: Unorthodox, a concert performed by the acclaimed Mivos Quartet celebrating composer Steve Reich. The program will not include Reich’s Violin Phase as previously announced, and will instead feature Reich’s poignant work WTC 9/11 for string quartet and tape, written in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. The concert will also include Reich’s Holocaust-related masterpiece Different Trains and his intensely contrapuntal Triple Quartet, both for string quartet and tape.

Highlights from the National Jewish Archive of Broadcasting Examine Anti-Semitism Through Classic TV Beginning March 18, 2016

With the second installment of its new, ongoing exhibition series, the Jewish Museum will continue introducing visitors to a dynamic part of its collection: the National Jewish Archive of Broadcasting (NJAB). The Television Project: Some of My Best Friends will be on view from March 18 through August 14, 2016 exploring the full range of the medium’s approach to anti-Semitism, from the satire and humor of the situation comedy to serious dramas that dissect the origins, motivations, and consequences of prejudice. Clips from such programs as All in the Family, Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Gunsmoke, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show will be featured.

Two Concerts!
David Weinstone and The Music for Aardvarks Band Perform Family Concerts at the Jewish Museum Sunday, February 7

Release Date: January 11, 2016

David Weinstone and The Music for Aardvarks Band will perform two concerts for kids at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 7 at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. Families will hear favorite songs celebrating being a kid in New York City such as City Kid, Taxi, Jack Hammer Joe and Modern Art. David Weinstone, founder of Music for Aardvarks, explains, "our shows are rockin', and we try to have as much audience participation as possible. We've even had kids come up on stage with us to sing or dance."

New Family Program!
Archaeology Mondays at the Jewish Museum Beginning February 15

Release Date: January 11, 2016

Expanding its offerings for families, the Jewish Museum is launching Archaeology Mondays, a new after-school program in the galleries of Archaeology Zone: Discovering Treasures from Playgrounds to Palaces.  Beginning Monday, February 15, 2016 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, and continuing on the third Monday of the month through May, families will participate in a simulated archaeological dig.  Unique to New York City, this hands-on experience features artifact replicas from ancient to modern times.  Children can discover how objects change over time, and unearth the stories these relics tell.

Concert for Families with Grammy Award Winner Mister G at the Jewish Museum Sunday, January 31

Mister G, winner of the 2015 Latin Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album, will perform a concert for families at the Jewish Museum on Sunday, January 31 at 11:30am.  Spanning genres from bluegrass and bossa nova to funk and folk, Mister G has been called a “kid-friendly bilingual rock star” by The Washington Post, and People Magazine declared his dynamic music “irresistible.”  He will perform hits from albums such as his Grammy-winning Los Animales and Mitzvah Bus, a new collection of 14 original Jewish songs for children in English, Hebrew, Spanish and Yiddish.

The Jewish Museum Open Christmas Day, December 25 with Art Exhibitions, Family Concerts, and More

Continuing its popular tradition, The Jewish Museum will be open on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25 from 11 am to 4 pm.  When many people are looking for something special to do, The Jewish Museum offers an eagerly anticipated, fun-filled way to spend the day.  Highlights this year include two ticketed concerts for families starring Oran Etkin at 11:30am and 2:00pm.  Concert tickets are $20 per adult, $15 per child.

Photography and Filming Policy

Members of the media may photograph or film within approved areas of the Jewish Museum for the purpose of news coverage. Photo and video shoots must be approved by the Communications Department and arranged at least 48 hours in advance. All organized photo or film shoots inside the Museum require an escort by a member of the Communications staff. Please contact us for more information or to discuss scheduling a shoot.
