Showcasing a colorful patchwork quilt bearing Eastern European and American imagery, Masterpieces & Curiosities: A Russian American Quilt continues a series of exhibitions focused on individual works in the Jewish Museum’s world-renowned collection. On view from August 22, 2014 to February 15, 2015, this exhibition highlights a rare quilt (c. 1899), a fascinating expression of the acculturation process undergone by newly arrived immigrants.

The Jewish Museum presents the next event in its popular series of after hours events, The Wind Up. Featuring art, live music, activities, and an open bar, The Wind Up: ALPHABET PARTY will take place on Thursday, July 24 from 8pm to 11pm.

Bang on a Can: Other Primary Structures, a concert featuring Bang on a Can All-Stars Vicky Chow (piano) and David Cossin (percussion) with Dither Quartet guitarists Taylor Levine and James Moore, will take place at the Jewish Museum on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30 pm.

Robert Pruzan, the Jewish Museum's Chairman, announced the appointment of René-Pierre Azria to the Board of Trustees at the June 9 annual meeting of the Board.  In addition to Mr. Azria, five leaders from the cultural and Jewish communities have joined the Board since Claudia Gould became the Jewish Museum's Helen Goldsmith Menschel Director in November 2011. They include: Margaret "Meg" Goodman, Audrey Wilf, Jane Wilf, Wendy Fisher, and David L. Resnick.

The Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can are launching a new partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015.  Inspired by the Jewish Museum’s diverse slate of exhibitions, the five programs will take place throughout the year across the Museum at Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, Manhattan.

Following the November 2013 launch of Sights and Sounds: Global Film and Video, the Jewish Museum continues the exhibition series with month-long presentations of recent film and video works from around the world. The summer 2014 lineup focuses on Angola (June 2014), China (July 2014), and Israel (August 2014).

Presented in two parts, Other Primary Structures revisits the premise of and builds upon the Museum’s seminal 1966 exhibition Primary Structures: Younger American and British Sculptors, the first American museum exhibition to survey the style now known as Minimalism.

Beginning May 2, the Jewish Museum’s lobby will feature a large-scale painting by Mel Bochner titled Blah, Blah, Blah (2014). This installation is the second in a series showcasing new work by artists from around the world in its Skirball Lobby. 

The Jewish Museum has launched a new graphic identity designed by Sagmeister & Walsh, the New York City design firm led by Stefan Sagmeister and Jessica Walsh, known for their experimental typography and striking visual imagery.

Revisiting its seminal 1966 exhibition Primary Structures, the Jewish Museum mounts a major exhibition of sculpture from the 1960s featuring the work of artists from Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, much of which has rarely been seen in the United States.

The Jewish Museum announces that Judith Butler has withdrawn from portraying Franz Kafka at the March 6th “Wish You Were Here: Franz Kafka” program.
