For the country’s millions of homebound seniors, innovative collaborations like the one between Selfhelp’s Virtual Senior Center and the Jewish Museum may make staying at home a much more interesting proposition. 

The Jewish Museum will present Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore, an exhibition of over 50 works from The Baltimore Museum of Art’s internationally renowned Cone Collection, from May 6 through September 25, 2011. 

One of the world’s foremost collections of decorated Jewish marriage contracts (ketubbot) is held by The Library of The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. Thirty of the finest will be on display at The Jewish Museum in The Art of Matrimony: Thirty Splendid Marriage Contracts from The Jewish Theological Seminary Library from March 11 through June 26, 2011. 

The first major museum survey of the work of illustrator, author and designer Maira Kalman (b. 1949, Tel Aviv), known for her whimsical yet probing imagery, opens at The Jewish Museum.

The Jewish Museum is presenting The Line and the Circle by Sharone Lifschitz, a video installation, from February 11 to August 21, 2011 in the Museum’s Barbara and E. Robert Goodkind Media Center.

The Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present the 20th annual New York Jewish Film Festival at the Film Society’s Walter Reade Theater, The Jewish Museum, and The JCC in Manhattan, Jan. 12–27, 2011. 

Joan Rosenbaum, who has led The Jewish Museum since 1981, creating its innovative identity as a museum of art and culture and doubling the size of its home at Fifth Avenue and 92nd Street, will retire at the end of June 2011 from her position as Helen Goldsmith Menschel Director of the Museum.

The Jewish Museum is presenting Light x Eight: Hanukkah 2010 at The Jewish Museum. This new annual celebration features exhibitions of Hanukkah-related works, eclectic music, family festivities, provocative talk and more. .

Three major sculptural installations related to Hanukkah will be on view in the contemporary gallery of Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey, The Jewish Museum’s permanent exhibition, from November 19, 2010 to January 30, 2011. 

The Jewish Museum will present A Hanukkah Project: Daniel Libeskind’s Line of Fire from November 19, 2010 through January 30, 2011. Daniel Libeskind, an international figure in architecture and urban design, has created a bold and dramatic installation featuring 40 Hanukkah lamps from the Museum’s renowned collection.

The Jewish Museum will present the first major art museum exhibition to examine Houdini’s life, legend, and enduring cultural influence from October 29, 2010 through March 27, 2011. Through 163 objects, exhibition visitors will be able to explore the career and legacy of the celebrated entertainer while considering his lasting impact on contemporary art and culture.

The Jewish Museum will present Shulie: Film and Stills by Elisabeth Subrin from September 12, 2010 through January 30, 2011 in the Museum’s Barbara and E. Robert Goodkind Media Center. Shulie (1997) is a shot-by-shot remake of a little-known documentary about 1960s feminist Shulamith Firestone.
