Following the November 2013 launch of the new exhibition series Sights and Sounds: Global Film and Video, the Jewish Museum continues Sights and Sounds with month-long presentations of recent film and video works from around the world.

The festival’s 49 features and shorts from ten countries — 24 screening in their world, U.S. or New York premieres — provide a diverse global perspective on the Jewish experience.

Over the course of seven exhibitions, the Jewish Museum’s curators will explore objects that highlight the breadth and diversity of the collection, focusing on individual works in its world-renowned collection, beginning with an extremely rare, late twelfth-century bronze lion aquamanile.

The Jewish Museum will launch a new series showcasing contemporary art in its Skirball Lobby, where artists will be invited to create new work or adapt a recent piece for the Museum’s spacious entryway. 

This year, Hanukkah and Thanksgiving coincide on November 28th, a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. In celebration of “Thanksgivukkah,” The Jewish Museum Shop is the exclusive New York City retailer of the Menurkey, a Hanukkah lamp in the shape of a turkey designed by 9-year-old New Yorker Asher Weintraub.

This first U.S. retrospective spans Spiegelman’s career: from his early days in underground comix to the thirteen-year genesis of Maus, to more recent work including provocative covers for The New Yorker, and artistic collaborations in new and unexpected media.

Beginning September 15, 2013, the adventurous fashion collective threeASFOUR will present its latest project, MER KA BA, a multimedia installation fusing avant-garde couture, architecture, and video projections, at The Jewish Museum.

 The Jewish Museum will present Elaine Reichek: A Postcolonial Kinderhood Revisited, a room-size work drawing inspiration from the Early American décor of the artist’s childhood bedroom. 

The Jewish Museum in New York will present Chagall: Love, War, and Exile, which, for the first time in the U.S., explores a significant but neglected period in the artist’s career, from the rise of fascism in the 1930s through 1948, years spent in Paris and then in exile in New York.

The Jewish Museum in New York City has acquired an extremely rare, late 12th-century North German bronze lion aquamanile for its collection. 

The Jewish Museum in New York will present Jack Goldstein x 10,000, the first American museum retrospective devoted to the work of Canadian-born artist Jack Goldstein (1945-2003). 

The Jewish Museum will present R. B. Kitaj: Personal Library. This exhibition features 33 screenprints from a suite of 50, created by the internationally celebrated painter and graphic artist R. B. Kitaj in 1969.
