The Jewish Museum to Reopen to Members on September 24, and to the Public on October 1

Release Date: September 16, 2020

Following over six months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jewish Museum will reopen to the public on Thursday, October 1, 2020,  preceded by five preview days for its Members on September 24, 25, 26, 29, and 30, 2020, from 11am to 4pm. All visitors will enjoy free admission through December 31, 2020, and be able to see the new exhibition (originally scheduled to open in March) We Fight to Build a Free World: An Exhibition by Jonathan Horowitz, as well as Rachel Feinstein: Maiden, Mother, Crone and Scenes from the Collection.

Virtual Museum Mile Festival Tuesday, June 9, 2020, 9 AM to 9 PM

Release Date: May 28, 2020

Eight New York City museums are joining together to create the first ever day-long virtual Museum Mile Festival on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, from 9 am to 9 pm. Throughout the day, each museum will host live and pre-recorded programs, virtual exhibition tours, live musical performances, and activities for families streamed across their respective websites and social media platforms. Culture enthusiasts from around the world will now be able to join New Yorkers, during this unprecedented moment, and enjoy the festival.

Once Upon a Time: Narrative in Art, A Conversation with Artists Rachel Feinstein and Lisa Yuskavage, Filmmaker Tamara Jenkins, and Jewish Museum Curator Kelly Taxter Now Available

On the evening of Thursday, March 12, 2020, Kelly Taxter, the Jewish Museum’s Barnett and Annalee Newman Curator of Contemporary Art, hosted a discussion with artists Rachel Feinstein and Lisa Yuskavage and filmmaker Tamara Jenkins, who all contributed to the catalogue for the Jewish Museum exhibition Rachel Feinstein: Maiden, Mother, Crone. Their conversation was held without an audience and recorded shortly before New York City directed residents to quarantine due to COVID-19. Video of the conversation is available HERE.

Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum Present: Nicole Mitchell

Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum’s 2019-2020 concert season continues on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 7:30pm at the Jewish Museum’s Scheuer Auditorium (1109 Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street). Flutist Nicole Mitchell's trio Matape, with Val Jeanty and Chad Taylor, creates ancient future soundscapes informed by the African diaspora through flute, Afro-Electronica, and percussion. This season’s Bang on a Can performances celebrate the unique power of artist’s voices, and Mitchell, emerging from Chicago’s innovative music scene in the late 90s, continues that theme. The power of artists voices also resonates with themes in the current exhibition Rachel Feinstein: Maiden, Mother, Crone.

In conjunction with the exhibition Rachel Feinstein: Maiden, Mother, Crone, the Jewish Museum will present a series of public programs, including a comedic walkthrough of the exhibition with artist Rachel Feinstein and comedian Rachel Feinstein on January 23; a lecture and book signing with the artist on February 13; and a panel discussion with artists Rachel Feinstein and Lisa Yuskavage, filmmakers Sofia Coppola and Tamara Jenkins, and singer/songwriter Florence Welch on March 12.

Winter/Spring 2020 Season of Family Programs at the Jewish Museum

Release Date: January 2, 2020

The Jewish Museum kicks off its winter/spring 2020 season of family programs in January with concerts, family days, art workshops, and more. Musical performances this season include Renee Stahl (performing at the Museum for the first time), Oran Etkin, Brady Rymer, The Pop Ups, and The Paper Bag Players. The Sound of Color, a six-week program exploring how music and art intertwine, begins February 26. Other programs on the schedule are the annual Freedom Art Jam on April 5; drop-in art workshops every Sunday and on selected holiday weekdays; and family art activities.

Photography and Filming Policy

Members of the media may photograph or film within approved areas of the Jewish Museum for the purpose of news coverage. Photo and video shoots must be approved by the Communications Department and arranged at least 48 hours in advance. All organized photo or film shoots inside the Museum require an escort by a member of the Communications staff. Please contact us for more information or to discuss scheduling a shoot.
